As Chair of the City’s Heritage Advisory Committee and Councillor of Ward 11, where there are two protected Heritage Districts, I am committed to preserving our shared past and honoured to work alongside City Council, Staff, residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to find ways to conserve our city’s rich heritage.
To preserve and protect our city’s heritage, Mississauga City Council has designated more than 500 heritage significant properties across the city, under the Ontario Heritage Act. City Council has designated three Heritage Conservation Districts in our city: Meadowvale Village (Ontario’s first HCD, 1980), Port Credit (2004), and Streetsville (2024), recognizing their distinct heritage character and properties.. Meadowvale Village and Streetsville are located in Ward 11 and our community is so fortunate to have such heritage rich communities that residents are proud to call home.
Most changes to heritage properties require approval from the City via heritage permits. We require this approval to help protect the cultural heritage value of the property. Council has also established a special Heritage Advisory Committee, which I Chair, and we meet on a regular basis to make recommendations to Council about heritage properties and cultural landscapes in the city.
Heritage designation will be preserving and protecting our heritage-significant properties and communities for generations to come. I invite you to visit our Heritage Districts, properties, and Museums to learn the stories of our collective past and their influence on diverse traditions and cultural expressions across our city and province.
